Vauxhall shaves nearly £3k off Astra Electric entry price with new Griffin grade
Vauxhall has cut entry pricing for its Astra Electric with the arrival of the new Griffin grade.
Priced from £34,995 for the hatchback and £37,195 for the Sport Tourer, the new special-edition model reduces the entry point to the Astra Electric range by £2,800. It also offers extra features over the existing entry-level Design trim that arrived late 2023.
The arrival of the Astra Electric Griffin follows the Corsa Electric Yes Edition and Mokka Electric Griffin, with the new limited-edition models designed to make Vauxhall’s electric range more accessible.
Also available as a petrol variant, the Astra Griffin in electric guise comes with a 156hp electric motor and 54kWh battery that enables a WLTP range of up to 258 miles.
It’s able to charge at up to 100kW DC, giving a 20-80% charge in 26 minutes. An 11kW on-board charger is fitted as standard, enabling a 0-100% charge in five hours 45 minutes from an 11kW public charger. And a 0-100% charge via a domestic 7kW wallbox will take eight hours. Drivers can use the Vauxhall Connect app to remotely schedule charging and pre-condition the vehicle’s cabin temperature.
The improved specification over the Design trim provides a range of enhanced design features, such as tinted rear windows and roof rails on the Sports Tourer, and the Astra Griffin also gets LED headlights, tail lights and daytime running lights with high beam assist.
The interior gains heated front seats, while the driver’s seat features an ergonomic design certified by AGR (Germany’s ‘Campaign for Healthier Backs’). The steering wheel is also heated, while interior tech has been enhanced with wireless smartphone charging and a rear-view 180-degree camera to complement the front and rear parking sensors.
Standard-fit connectivity features on Astra Griffin models include Vauxhall’s Multimedia Pure Panel infotainment system with a 10-inch colour touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 10-inch digital instrument cluster.
Driver-assistance tech delivers adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, traffic and speed sign recognition, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
The Astra Griffin is also available with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol, outputting 130hp and paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. It’s available solely as a hatchback, priced at £24,795, cutting the overall entry point to the Astra range by £2,775, while again offering additional features compared to Design trim.
The Astra Griffin is available to order now and starts first deliveries of electric models this month with the petrol variant following in November.
