Volkswagen Tayron premieres with up to seven seats and PHEV option
Volkswagen has uncovered its new Tayron SUV, delivering a replacement to the Tiguan Allspace and complete with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid options.
Arriving in the UK from next spring in both five- and seven-seat guise, it sits above the Tiguan and below the Touareg and is closely related to the Škoda Enyaq.
Positioned as a “charismatic all-rounder SUV”, the family focused new arrival also comes with “extremely spacious passenger and luggage compartments” and up to 885 litres of boot space in the five-seat model. It also delivers a maximum trailer weight of up to 2,500kg.
Two eHybrid plug-in hybrids, already seen in the slightly smaller Tiguan, will be available. These deliver 204hp and 272hp, delivering more than 62 miles (100km) of range but, due to the battery placement, are only available as five-seaters. The 19.7kWh (net) battery can be charged with up to 11kW at an AC wallbox or charging station, and with up to 50kW at DC quick-charging stations.
The line-up will also include two turbocharged petrol engines (TSI) and two turbocharged diesel engines (TDI). The entry-level unit is a 150hp petrol mild hybrid with 48V technology. All are coupled to a dual-clutch automatic gearbox; six-speed for the PHEVs and seven-speed for ICE versions.
Prices and specification for the UK will be confirmed soon.
