Volvo C40 and XC40 Recharge get up to 24% extra electric range
Volvo has increased the electric range for its C40 and XC40 Recharge models by up to 24% thanks to technical updates.
Official data for the revised cars show increases of up to 64 miles in driving range from a full charge. The figures now stand at up to 342 miles for the C40 crossover and 334 miles for the XC40 SUV, compared to 278 and 270 previously.
The changes also deliver greater efficiency, now up to 3.7 miles/kWh for the most efficient models.
The improvements are the result of changes, including a switch from front- to rear-wheel drive for the single-motor Recharge versions of both models, and the adoption of a new, more powerful motor that offers 238hp, up from 231hp. Battery performance has also been improved thanks to enhancements to cooling efficiency.
The dual-motor versions also benefit from a slightly larger battery – up to 82kWh from 78kWh before – and a switch to new front and rear motors, outputting 150hp and 258hp respectively, compared to the 204hp units previously used on both axles. Total power remains the same as before, at 408hp.
Customers will also benefit from faster recharging times for the C40 and XC40 Recharge Twin all-wheel-drive models as a result of an increase in their maximum charging rate from 150kW to 200kW. This shaves nine minutes off the 10 to 80% recharging time, which drops to 28 minutes when using a 200kW DC rapid-charging system.
Kristian Elvefors, Volvo Car UK managing director, said: “These results are independent validation of the constant efforts we are making to deliver the best possible balance of performance and efficiency. In addition to being committed to offering a fully electric car line-up by 2030, we are also determined to develop and refine the technologies in our existing pure electric models to ensure our customers can benefit from real-world performance that meets their needs.”
The updated C40 and XC40 Recharge models are available to order now. First UK deliveries are expected in the second half of the year.
