Volvo starts tests of 6x faster on-board charger

The charger will be tested in a few of the company’s own C30 Electric test cars, and offers three charging options for drivers. At 32A, the car can be topped up to offer a 50-mile range within 30 minutes or filled to capacity in 90 minutes.

‘The user can 'top up' the battery pack with electricity one or more times during the day. This means that the total daily range is significantly extended, yet with the same low operating cost compared to a car with a conventional power train,’ said Lennart Stegland, vice president electric propulsion systems at Volvo Car Corporation.

‘Giving customers more usable hours each day means that electric cars become more viable as a commercial proposition, in both the private and public sectors.’
