VRA white paper busts 10 common electric vehicle myths

A new white paper busting 10 of the most common myths surrounding electric vehicles is now out from the Vehicle Remarketing Association (VRA).

The white paper covers topics including range, batteries, charging, running costs, pollution and insurance5

The ‘EV Misconceptions’ guide covers topics including range, battery degradation, charging, running costs, pollution, insurance – and even the accusation that EVs catch fire more easily.

The paper has been authored by battery electrochemist Dr Euan McTurk, creator of Plug Life Television, a YouTube channel about EVs, to help the remarketing sector inform used car buyers on the facts around EVs.

Philip Nothard, VRA chair, said: “Everyone working in remarketing knows that EVs attract a lot of misinformation, much of it largely inaccurate. Our aim with the new white paper is to create a document that gives people working in the used car and van sector the facts they need to reassure potential customers.

“It’s designed to be distributed throughout organisations and especially to sales and marketing teams, who are dealing with these types of objections to EVs from potential buyers on a daily basis. If everyone in our sector is going to make a success of electrification, we need to bust these myths.”

The white paper is the fifth to be created by the VRA on EVs in the last year, with earlier instalments covering Electric Vehicle Charging, Electric Vehicle Battery Health, Understanding Electric Vehicle Efficiency, Charging Costs and Charging Infrastructure and The Future of EV Technology.

Nothard said: “We now have a small library of white papers covering a whole range of EV topics written by Euan which have been very well received across our membership and the wider remarketing sector. Certainly, I have learnt a lot from reading them and I expect that others in the used vehicle sector have benefited in a similar manner.”
