Watford Borough Council is installing 79 new electric vehicle charging points across the town to support a significant move towards more sustainable transport in the area.

Cllr Ian Stotesbury, portfolio holder for transport and sustainability

The new charge points will be installed across the town, bringing the total number to 10 and  significantly improving the accessibility and convenience of EV charging for both residents and visitors alike.

The project has been spearheaded by the council and supported by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), which has supplied 60% of the funding while the other 40% of the installation costs is being supplied through the council’s contract with partners Blink Charging. The total investment is £1.3m.

Cllr Ian Stotesbury, portfolio holder for transport and sustainability, said: “We are delighted to have obtained this funding that will enable us to extend our EV charging infrastructure, facilitating the utilisation of electric vehicles. As a council, we are dedicated to decreasing carbon emissions in the borough by implementing various initiatives.

“A significant number of individuals in Watford already use electric vehicles, which are proven to decrease pollution and enhance local air quality. Thus, it is crucial to have an adequate charging infrastructure in place, and I would like to express my gratitude to the hardworking team that obtained this grant funding.”
