Renault updates Symbioz and Captur with more powerful hybrid and new tech

Renault has updated its Captur and Symbioz SUVs with a more powerful full hybrid powertrain, a new mild hybrid option for Symbioz and extra equipment for Captur trims for the 2026 model year.

The new full hybrid E-Tech 160 powertrain replaces the previous 145hp system, delivering both improved performance and efficiency. It teams up a larger 1.8-litre petrol engine with a higher-capacity 1.4kWh battery.

The new engine ups power and torque, shaving off a second from the 0-62mph time.

At the same time, the larger battery (up from 1.26kWh) is able to run more in electric-only mode while the new EU7-compliant engine uses some 5% less fuel and emits 97g/km of CO2.

The new full hybrid also benefits from changes to the intelligent multi-mode transmission, including smoother shifting and an additional mode designed specifically for motorway use to cut noise levels and improve responsiveness, plus a new e-shifter as standard across all trim levels.

Lastly, the new powertrain increases towing capacity, up from 750kg to 1,000kg.

Prices for the Captur full hybrid E-Tech 160 start at £25,195, with the Symbioz full hybrid E-Tech 160 available from £29,795.

The midsize Symbioz also gains a new mild hybrid 140 option for the new model year. The 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbocharged unit is paired with a six-speed manual transmission and delivers 47.9mpg on the WLTP combined cycle and CO2 emissions of 133g/km.

Available exclusively with the Techno trim, it’s positioned as a new entry-level model and priced from £27,395.

There’s also a raft of new driver assistance systems as standard for the Captur. All trim levels now come with an electric parking brake with auto-hold as standard. Adaptive cruise control with speed limiter is now included on the mid-range Techno trim and above for all hybrid models.

The range-topping Esprit Alpine trim goes further, adding lane centring, occupant safe exit, blind spot recognition, rear detection with emergency lane keeping assist, and rear cross traffic alert all as standard. A new child locking function for the rear doors and windows is also included.

Orders are now open for the MY26 Captur and Symbioz.
