Chinese car giant Chery is going great guns on its UK launch plans with confirmation of the arrival of its Tiggo 7 SUV this summer.
Confirmed just weeks after the brand announced its operations and intentions for the UK, the Tiggo 7 compact crossover will be available in pure petrol and plug-in hybrid versions, priced from £24,995 and £29,995 respectively.
The new model will join the Tiggo 8 seven-seat plug-in hybrid SUV, unveiled last week at Goodwood Festival of Speed, further bolstering the brand’s plans for market share.
Chery UK has already successfully introduced sister brands Omoda UK and Jaecoo UK, which achieved a record 2% market share in June, and is now pushing ahead with its “ambitious expansion” into the UK as a standalone brand, backed by a UK-wide dealer network and “UK-refined” models.
Optimised by Chery International’s European R&D centre, the Tiggo 7 has been set up for the UK’s demanding roads and gets an engine and specification line-up intended to meet local drivers’ needs, backed by a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty, whichever comes first, plus an eight-year battery warranty on the plug-in hybrid.
The petrol variant uses a 1.6-litre turbocharged direct injection engine that produces 147hp and 275Nm of torque, enabling the Tiggo 7 to accelerate from 0-62mph in 9.4 seconds with a top speed of 112mph. Economy details haven’t been announced yet.
The Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid PHEV offers a total WLTP range of 745 miles, including 56 EV-only miles, and is capable of a 0-62mph time of 8.5 seconds, with a top speed of 112mph. The 18.3kWh lithium iron phosphate battery is capable of fast charging at an unspecified rate, giving a 30-80% charge in 20 minutes. CO2 emissions come in at 23g/km, slotting it in the 9% Benefit-in-Kind bracket for 2025/6.
Two trim levels will be available: Aspire and Summit.
Standard equipment across both includes a curved dual-screen setup with a pair of 12.3-inch displays, 540-degree cameras with transparent chassis and door opening view and three driving modes (Eco, Normal and Sport).
The base Aspire grade comes with dual-zone air-conditioning, adaptive cruise control, six-speaker Sony audio system, multi-function synthetic leather steering wheel, plus cooled wireless smartphone charging and front and rear parking sensors.
Summit models add an eight-speaker Sony audio system, ventilated front-row seats, hands-free tailgate access, heated steering wheel and ‘puddle light’ illumination.
