The Changan Deepal S07 all-electric SUV has opened for orders in the UK, delivering yet another rival to the Tesla Model Y.
On sale now and priced at £39,990, it’s the first model to arrive from Changan – the latest Chinese car giant to launch in the UK – and part of its Deepal sub-brand.
Changan is one of the largest automotive groups in China with over 41 years of automotive manufacturing experience and the launch of its vehicles in Europe marks a new chapter for its international expansion plans.
But the company has been building its presence in Europe since 2001 with a design centre in Turin and a research and development centre in Birmingham – making the Deepal S07 in fact an Italian-designed, UK-engineered SUV that’s been calibrated for roads over here.
The Deepal S07 also launches with the help of 20 Changan UK dealerships, including a flagship site at Lookers Star City, Birmingham. This will grow to 50 retail sites nationwide by the end of 2025, supported by a UK parts hub and dedicated aftersales network that the brand says ensures “gold standard customer care”.
Just one Deepal S07 model will be available, powered by a 218hp rear-mounted motor, delivering 320Nm of torque and said to deliver “a fun and engaging drive”.
The 80kWh battery has a WLTP range of up to 295 miles (475km WLTP). DC charging rate is just 93kW, giving a 10 to 80% recharge in 48 minutes but it comes with AC charging at 11kW, a heat pump and vehicle-to-load functionality as standard.
Design features include a panoramic sunroof, hidden door handles, full-width LED light bar and a vegan leather interior.
The cabin also comes with wraparound yacht-inspired detailing and is outfitted with a 15.6-inch rotating ‘Sunflower’ touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 14-speaker audio and augmented reality heads-up display. It also gets a blend of physical controls, an intelligent multi-zone voice assistant and gesture control; Changan says its UK team has made more than 150 adaptations to meet customer experience demands.
Driver assistance equipment delivers adaptive cruise, lane-keep assist, semi-autonomous drive mode and a 360-degree surround view camera with transparent chassis view.
The Deepal S07 also comes with a five-star Euro NCAP rating, seven-year/100k mile vehicle and eight-year/120k mile battery warranty.
Nic Thomas, managing director of Changan UK, said: “The Changan Deepal S07 is designed to make electric driving accessible, enjoyable, and practical for UK consumers. It combines sleek design, intuitive technology designed around the customer, and real-world range with a price point that makes sense. We believe it will truly resonate with British drivers looking for a high-quality EV without compromise.”
