It’s four years since the Spanish high-performance brand debuted the Born as its first fully electric car, and the updates embraces the brand’s latest design language DNA and boosts appeal in an increasingly crowded marketplace.
Outside, the electric hatchback gets newly designed front and rear bumpers, triangular Matrix LED lights and an illuminated Cupra logo integrated into the 3D rear light.
The biggest changes take place in the cabin where there’s a redesigned steering wheel featuring physical controls, new, plusher door panels, and a larger 10.25-inch digital cockpit, supported by augmented reality head-up display. The sound system has also been upgraded with Sennheiser Contrabass technology to deliver an “immersive” bass performance, while the new Interior Sound Signature “delivers a stronger connection between the driver and the car”.
Powertrains have been revised. The entry-level version now teams up a 190hp motor with a 58kWh battery for a range of around 279 miles. Above it, there’s a 231hp motor and larger 79kWh battery combo for a longer range of around 372 miles. Both are available in V1 and V2 grades. The performance-focused Born VZ keeps the 79kWh battery for the same c.372-mile range and adds in a 326hp motor.
Charging rates are 11kW AC and 185kW DC for the larger battery. The 58kWh can charge at up to 11kW AC, with the DC rate still be confirmed.
The Cupra Born also comes with a new one-pedal driving system and Launch Control, plus wider tyres for both 19- and 20-inch wheels.
Alongside the upgraded performance, the new Born is equipped with updated safety systems, Travel Assist 3.0, with cloud‑enhanced longitudinal control, new Crossroad Assist, upgraded Front Assist with multi‑stage warnings, and precrash with rear detection to deliver intelligent protection.
Pricing is yet to be announced. The current Cupra Born starts from £34,190, including the Electric Car Grant.
