Co-op is expanding its electric home delivery fleet with Toyota under a £1.5m investment supporting carbon reduction and net zero goals.

The company is introducing more than 50 new Proace City compact vans as part of its fleet replacement and upgrade programme.

Toyota is an established partner of Co-op’s Quick Commerce app-based rapid delivery operation, which has a clear goal of growing its online business.

The latest vehicle deal extends this relationship. It also aligns with the two brands’ commitment to quality, reliability and supporting local and outlying rural communities where courier services tend to be unavailable.

Anthony Molloy, Co-op quick commerce delivery and technology manager, said: “We continually explore new and better ways in which we can enhance reliability, extend our reach and better serve our members, customers and communities. This investment is another step toward reducing emissions from our fleet and lowering our impact on the climate, so we are delighted to take delivery of our new fleet of electric online home delivery vehicles.”

The Toyota Proace City EV compact van is available in two body lengths, with load space of up to 4.4m3. It can carry a payload of up to 990kg and has a towing capacity of up to one tonne. All versions have space enough for two Europallets, while the Smart Cargo folding seat system – provided as standard – adds to the cargo capacity and enables longer items to be carried.

As with all Toyota models, the Proace City comes with a three-year manufacturer warranty, followed by an additional 12-month/10,000-mile warranty with every qualifying service at an authorised Toyota centre, up to 100,000 miles or 10 years.
