BMW i8 claims International Engine of the Year title
“This is a fitting victory for what is a remarkable powertrain,” enthused Dean Slavnich, co-chairman of the International Engine of the Year Awards. “The i8 is a supercar of the future that’s available today. Progressive, emotive and environmentally responsible, here is a creation that proves the transport of tomorrow can be very, very exciting.”
BMW took a total of four awards at the event, which was held today (17 June) at Engine Expo 2015, with the i8 engine also being awarded the New Engine award designed to mark the most important engine development in the last 12 months, and the 1.4-litre to 1.8-litre category. BMW also took the honours in the 2.5-litre to 3-litre category for its 3-litre twin-turbo six cylinder found in the M3 and M4.
Other highlights saw Tesla’s Model S grab the Green Engine award for the second consecutive year.
