Fiat gives first look at new Topolino 100% electric quadricycle
Fiat has unveiled a new compact electric quadricycle with an exterior design that is inspired by early derivatives of the Fiat 500 such as the round headlights and prominent badge on the front.
Expected to be based on the same platform as the Citroën Ami, the Topolino has been designed to provide an “urban mobility solution” for inner-city drivers.
It comes equipped with a mint green exterior colour and a retractable fabric roof. The “Topolino” name is imprinted on the front bumper and there’s also a rope to act as a door to the vehicle, though it’s unclear which elements will make it into the production version.
The name of the vehicle harks back to the classic “original” Fiat 500 which finished production in 1955 and was commonly referred to as “Topolino”.
Fiat has not released any specifications for the Topolino, but it is expected to share its powertrain with the Ami. Therefore, it’s likely that the Topolino will be able to return a range of up to 46 miles from a 5.5kWh battery. On the Ami, a 6kW electric motor allows for a top speed of 28mph, meaning that it will be much more suitable for use in urban environments. The Topolino is not destined for the UK, however.
