Geotab on track to reach net zero by 2040

Geotab has released its 2021 GHG Emissions Report, showing a significant reduction in the company’s carbon emissions and putting it on track for its green targets.

The business is on course to meet its targets of a 50% emissions reduction by 2030 and net zero by 2040

The global fleet tracking and telematics provider, which is a signatory of eco initiatives including the Climate Pledge, saw its total carbon emissions in 2021 decrease 14% from the 2019 baseline.

The new report reveals that in 2021, Geotab achieved a 6% reduction in Scope 1 emissions, a 21% reduction in Scope 2 emissions, and a 14% reduction in Scope 3 emissions.

The total net change versus 2019 was a reduction of 6,129 metric tons of CO2e.

The reduction puts the business on course to meet its targets of a 50% emissions reduction by 2030 and net zero by 2040; these targets have already been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Geotab said its reduction in emissions for 2021 followed a concerted effort to build on a significant drop in emissions during 2020 as a result of the pandemic and the switch to home working. Its proactive deployment of sustainable programmes built on this in 2021 and included EV rebates and public transportation incentives for employees, while its work-from-home and business travel guidelines helped reduce the return to commuting.

While the company reports annually on its own GHG emissions, it also notes that its most significant impact on climate change can be realised by helping decarbonise fleets worldwide – its subscribers run over three million vehicles globally. Tools provided by the company to help drive real-world EV performance include the EV Suitability Assessment (EVSA), Green Fleet Dashboard, Temperature Tool for EV Range and the EV Battery Degradation Tool.

“Current economic and political events in the world emphasise the importance of limiting carbon emissions through collective action,” said Edward Kulperger, senior vice president of EMEA at Geotab. “At Geotab, we recognise the challenges businesses are facing. To support our partners and customers, Geotab provides data-driven sustainable solutions to help accelerate their carbon emissions reduction while maintaining a profitable business. As a company, we have set our own carbon emissions reduction targets in line with the Paris Agreement and are committed to transparent action.”

In separate news, Geotab has also been named as the number one global commercial telematics vendor by ABI Research for the third time. Its leading position is based on a portfolio of over three million connected vehicles and a global presence in more than 160 countries.

“For the third time Geotab comes out on top and leads in implementation,” said Alex McQueen, Research Analyst, Supply Chain Management and Logistics at ABI Research. “Geotab has held its industry-leading average growth rate and now commands the leading position in global commercial telematics with over three million connected vehicles.”
