Hertz customers to get free charging point access in London
As part of the agreement, Hertz on Demand car club customers using an electric vehicle will be offered free access to the Source London charging points. Hertz will also promote the scheme at its rental locations around London.
Hertz, which operates electric vehicle rental schemes on three continents, has a network of 16 Source London funded charging points across the city, including Heathrow and London City Airports, and recently announced it would be adding the Vauxhall Ampera to its London-based rental fleet.
The partnership follows a discussion group, hosted by Hertz this week, which discussed electromobility with the Office of Low Emission Vehicles, Source London and PricewaterhouseCoopers on how to advance adoption in the United Kingdom and worldwide.
Michel Taride, President, Hertz International and Executive Vice President, Hertz Corporation, told attendees the process could be sped up by greater collaboration between involved parties.
‘The car rental industry, local and central government, charging station providers, businesses and consumers now need to come together and each play their role in spreading the EV revolution throughout the UK,’ he said.
‘Vehicle technology has advanced to make EVs a reality, but the network of charging stations to support usage is essential. Like London, cities need to have plans in place to develop EV networks; bringing together stakeholders including EV manufacturers, charging station providers and customers. In addition to on-street charging, corporations should install charging stations in buildings and business campuses to support fleet business cars as well as personal cars.’
