Honda’s new hybrid-only HR-V crossover revealed

Honda has revealed its third-generation HR-V crossover, due late 2021 and featuring a dramatic new design and with hybrid power as standard.

The all-new HR-V e:HEV will be available in Europe in late 2021

As with the CR-V and Jazz, the HR-V becomes the latest Honda to get the brand’s e:HEV-badged hybrid powertrain, ditching its previous petrol and diesel powertrains.

The brand announced a year ago that it was accelerating its plans to fully electrify its range, bringing the date forwards by three years to 2022.

No details of the HR-V’s powertrain have been revealed but Honda says it will offer “exceptional hybrid efficiency”.

The new model also significantly advances the HR-V styling, adopting a dramatic coupé-inspired, dominated at the front by a new integrated grille, and with a revamped interior that includes a sweeping instrument panel and an open airy feel, incorporating new fabrics and soft-touch materials.

Honda says the hybrid drivetrain has been packaged to ensure the HR-V preserves its predecessor’s class-leading interior space, although no details have been announced.

It also retains Honda’s practical Magic Seats that offer both ‘fold-flat’ or ‘flip-up’ seat flexibility, depending on cargo space required.

Honda also promises “advanced safety and technology features”.

The all-new HR-V e:HEV will be available in Europe in late 2021.
