Available with two battery options, the fully electric version of the crossover joins the hybrid and ICE variants already announced and completes the line-up.

The standard Kona Electric features a 156hp motor and a 48kWh battery that gives a range of 223 miles. The long-range powertrain ups this to a 218hp motor and a 65kWh battery, delivering a 319-mile range.

Both provide faster charging options, with an increased DC fast charging capability of 102.3kW compared to the previous generation’s 75kW maximum.

As with the ICE and HEV models, the Kona Electric comes in Advance, N Line, N Line S and Ultimate grades.

All models feature dual 12.3-inch panoramic display screens with full over-the-air updates, steering wheel controls, front and rear USB C charging points and the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit, also able to support future Feature on Demand applications. A new Digital Key, which can use a compatible device to lock, unlock and start the vehicle, is also available.

The Kona Electric Advance trim level is priced from £34,995 for the 48kWh powertrain and features 17-inch alloy wheels, body-coloured door mirrors and door handles, rear spoiler, roof rails and front and rear skid plates. Onboard technologies include dual-zone climate control, automatic rear-view dimming mirror, automatic headlights and windscreen wipers, smart cruise control with stop and go function, electric parking brake, front and rear parking sensors with rear camera and guidance system and keyless entry with start/stop button.

Ultimate trims start from £43,095 and is only available with the 65kWh powertrain. It upgrades to 19-inch alloy wheels, full-width daytime running lights with full projection LED headlamps, upgraded upholstery, opening sunroof and Bose premium sound system with seven speakers and subwoofer and power opening tailgate. It also gains a raft of extra safety systems, including blind spot collision avoidance assist, rear cross traffic collision avoidance assist, side and reverse parking systems, safe exit warning and surround view monitor.

The N Line trim kicks in from £40,395, again solely with the 65kWh powertrain, and adds in bespoke styling features including dedicated front and rear bumper designs, side skirts, 19-inch alloy wheels, black gloss door mirrors, body coloured wheel arch inserts and an optional black roof. The interior also gains bespoke styling and introduces additional equipment such as interior ambient lighting, heated steering wheel, wireless charging pad for compatible devices and power opening tailgate.

The N Line S starts from £43,095 for the 65kW. It debuts exterior highlights such as full projection LED headlamps while the cabin gets N Line Alcantara and leather-trimmed seats that are both heated and ventilated, with electrical adjustability, three-zone air conditioning and Bose premium sound system with seven speakers and subwoofer. It also offers additional safety equipment.

As with the ICE and hybrid models, the new Kona Electric provides enhanced styling, space and technology. Longer, wider and higher than the previous generation, the fully electric version gains extra head, leg and shoulder room while luggage capacity rises to 466 litres of space with the seats up and 1,300 litres with the seats down, compared to 332/1,114 litres for the previous generation.

Hyundai also promises highly competitive PCP rates with strong residual values across the range.

Ashley Andrew, president, Hyundai Motor UK, said: “The original Kona Electric set an immediate benchmark for the EV sector with a combination of industry leading efficiency, keen pricing and high equipment levels all housed in a stylish SUV body. All-new Kona Electric will continue to deliver the solid foundations of the Kona name but pushes levels of efficiency and equipment even higher, with a body size that’s now optimised for space and comfort combined with futuristic EV-centric styling both inside and out but at all a price point that remains within reach.”
