Hyundai reveals prices and specs for flagship Ioniq 6 electric saloon

Prices and specifications are now out for Hyundai’s new Ioniq 6, a radical new electric saloon that marks a new flagship for the brand.

The Korean carmaker’s sleek “electrified streamliner” brings a rival to models such as the Tesla Model 3

Priced from £46,745, the Korean carmaker’s sleek “electrified streamliner” brings a rival to models such as the Tesla Model 3 and focuses on luxury, efficiency and comfort.

Following in the footsteps of the First Edition models launched in October, the full range is offered in rear- and all-wheel drive variants, all with a standard long range 77kWh battery.

Rear-wheel drive versions deliver 228hp of power and 350Nm, plus a 7.4-second 0-62mph time and a 115mph top speed. WLTP electric range is up to 338 miles.

All-wheel drive versions up this to 325hp of power and 605Nm, a 5.1-second 0-62mph time and the same 115mph top speed, while range drops slightly to a still respectable 322 miles.

Based on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform – also used for Kia and Genesis models – the Ioniq 6 also gets a standard 800v charging system, providing 350kW ultra-fast charger compatibility and with a standard battery heating system to optimise charge times in all conditions. Like the Ioniq 5, the ‘6’ also provides vehicle-to-load capabilities, enabling other devices to be powered via a conventional three-pin plug.

It’s also the first Hyundai to offer an Over-the-Air (OTA) software update feature for various vehicle control units for electric devices, driving assist functions, high voltage battery operation and more, negating the need to visit the dealer.

Alongside the First Editions, the main line-up gives a choice of Premium and Ultimate trim levels.

Features on entry-level Premium versions include 20-inch alloy wheels, electrically operated and folding door mirrors, electronically controlled and heated front seats with separate lumbar support, heated rear seats, 12.3-inch Touchscreen Satellite Navigation and Media Centre with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and Bluelink connected car service with a three-year subscription.

The Ultimate grade is priced from £50,245 and adds in various features such as automatic flush fitting door handles, sunroof with electric tilt and slide operation, blind spot view monitor, drivers head-up-display, surround view monitor, remote smart parking and a Bose premium audio system.

The Ultimate also features LED steering wheel lights with vehicle to driver interactions, and Active Sound Design (e-ASD) tech that gives “a unique and defining sound under acceleration”.

The interior focuses on the use of eco-friendly, sustainable materials, including eco-processed leather, recycled PET fabric, bio paint derived from vegetable oils and recycled fishing net. Sustainable materials also feature in the exterior, including recycled paint pigment from end-of-life tyres in the exterior colour of the cladding.

Ashley Andrew, managing director at Hyundai Motor UK, said: “Ioniq 6 has already captured customer attention, with the First Edition models all reserved within 24 hours, and with the comprehensive specification of the Premium and Ultimate trim lines, Ioniq 6 looks set to follow in the footsteps of the Ioniq 5’s success.”
