Indra unveils new Smart Lux home charger

British EV charging and smart energy technology business Indra has launched its Smart Lux EV home charger.

The slim design enables use in narrow driveways or in locations where access is limited

The 7.4kW charger teams up the smart functionality of the existing Smart Pro along with a compact design; it’s said to be the slimmest EV charger on the market with a profile of 78mm. This gives it a minimalist design as well as enabling its use in narrow driveways or in locations where access is limited. Drivers can choose from 6m or an optional 10m tethered charging cable.

The Smart Lux is also designed for durability. It’s claimed to be the only EV charger with an IP67 rating for water and dust protection and also comes with an IK10 impact rating.

Thanks to its smart functionality, the Smart Lux is able to integrate with the cheapest and greenest tariffs, including Type of Use, Time of Use and Agile fees. The Indra App automatically selects the best time to charge for the lowest costs and greenest energy, and allows drivers to add charge by miles, kW or cost. Light sequences enable users to quickly understand the charger status.

The Smart Lux is also solar PV ready and capable of diverting surplus energy from solar panels to EVs.

Indra’s founder and chief product officer, Mike Schooling said: “The new Smart Lux has been designed, developed and engineered in the UK, and is built using our years of knowledge and experience in the smart energy technology business. Its ultra slim design and intuitive technology offers EV drivers the most flexible, high performance and cost-effective charging solution available on the market today.”

The launch of the Smart Lux comes after the company recently secured more than £20m to help roll out its bidirectional charging technology, hot on the heels of the announcement of its involvement in the Government’s V2X Innovation Programme.

Indra is also running a large-scale trial of V2H bidirectional charging later this year, involving more than 500 participants to show the benefits of the technology to EV drivers.
