It’s the fourth model based on the brand’s new all-electric platform and joins the existing EQS and EQE saloons as well as the EQS SUV.

More compact than the EQE saloon, it’s designed to combine function and aesthetics with a sporty SUV character. Boot space stands at 520 litres and the EQE SUV gets a five-seater layout compared to the EQS SUV’s seven seats.

Powertrain outputs range from 292hp to 408hp and, depending on equipment and configuration, the European vehicles can achieve WLTP ranges of up to 590km (367 miles). The line-up will include rear- and all-wheel drive 4Matic versions.

The lithium-ion battery uses new software, developed in-house and able to be updated over-the-air, enabling future enhancements. DC charging capacity will be up to 170kW.

Drivers will also get access to the Mercedes me Charge network, which offers different charging tariffs tailored to individual driving performance.

The line-up will also include the first all-electric performance SUV from Mercedes-AMG, which includes two electric motors with up to 687hp total output, fully variable all-wheel drive, AMG air suspension, rear-axle steering and AMG-specific roll stabilisation as standard.

Engineered to be more dynamic than the EQS SUV, the new EQE arrival uses a four-link suspension at the front and an independent multi-link suspension at the rear, said to make it particularly manoeuvrable and agile. Vehicle level can be raised by up to 30mm, increasing ground clearance.

Airmatic air suspension with ADS+ continuously adjustable damping is available as an optional extra. Dynamic Select programmes feature Eco, Comfort, Sport and Individual options and the EQE SUV models with 4Matic also come with the Offroad programme for off-road driving. A rear axle steering system with a maximum steering angle of 10 degrees is available as an option.

Standard-fit driving assistance systems include Attention Assist, Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Parking Package with reversing camera and Speed Limit Assist. Further options are available in the Assistance Package and also the Driving Assistance Plus Package.

Onboard tech includes the optional MBUX Hyperscreen, already seen in the EQS SUV and EQE saloon. This provides a trio of screens under a single display cover, spanning nearly the full width of the car at 1.41m. A leather-free interior is also available.

Prices and specification details are expected closer to market launch, around late spring 2023.
