Mercedes-Benz has uncovered its new CLA Shooting Brake, marked out as the first electric estate from the brand.
Revealed just weeks after the debut of the CLA and due early 2026, it delivers more space than its saloon sibling along with electric models with up to 761km (472 miles) of range and hybrid versions due later.
The new second-generation CLA Shooting Brake also gets boot space from 455 to 1,290 litres, down by 30 litres and 60 litres respectively from the old model but compensated for by the illuminated frunk under the front bonnet that holds a further 101 litres and means the new model delivers more space overall. The electric Easy-Pack tailgate comes as standard and the CLA Shooting Brake is also equipped with standard-fit roof rails able to take surfboards or bicycles up to 75kg. Towing capacity is up to 1,800kg (braked); enough for a jet ski or two motorcycles on a trailer.
As with the CLA, two versions will be available from launch – the CLA 250+ Shooting Brake and CLA 350 4Matic Shooting Brake with EQ Technology – both with an 85kWh (useable) lithium-ion battery.
The CLA 250+ Shooting Brake features a single rear-mounted motor, delivering 272hp and enabling a 0-62mph sprint in 6.8 seconds, and gets the headline electric range of up to 761km (472 miles).
The CLA 350 4Matic Shooting Brake, positioned as the performance model, gains an extra motor on the front axle for all-wheel drive and a 0-62mph time of 5.0 seconds. This version has an official WLTP range of up to 730km (453 miles).
Thanks to the 800V architecture, the CLA Shooting Brake can take up to 320kW on a DC connection while AC charging is possible with up to 22kW.
Other fully electric versions will follow at the beginning of 2026 while 48V mild hybrid models are on the way too.
As with its saloon compatriot, the Shooting Brake gets a large panoramic roof made of heat-insulating laminated safety glass with an infrared-reflecting and a low-emissivity coating on the inside, which retains heat in the winter and reduces heating of the vehicle interior in summer. Optional functionality also means the transparency of the glass can be changed from clear to opaque in 10 to 20 milliseconds.
The large panoramic roof is also connected to the ambient lighting and offers an illuminated starry sky. A total of 158 stars are integrated into its glass surface, which can be illuminated in the individually selected colour of the ambient lighting. The light is fed in from the front via LED modules.
The optional MBUX Superscreen extends across the interior and combines a 10.25-inch screen for the driver and the 14-inch central display behind the glass surface. A 14-inch separate screen is optionally available for the front passenger for individual entertainment.
The new CLA Shooting Brake is the second vehicle to function entirely via the Mercedes‑Benz Operating System (MB.OS), which enables regular over-the-air updates for the entertainment system and vehicle functions such as the driver assistance systems, making the digital experience more personalised and intelligent than ever before.
Additional equipment packages, the AMG Line, the AMG Line Plus and numerous individual options are available for further customisation.
