The partnership offers the reduction at point of sale, with an equal discount on installation by a British Gas engineer, plus a free electrical survey, advice on which charging point best suits customers’ needs and a Home Energy Monitoring System to allow them to watch electricity usage.

British Gas has already partnered with Nissan, Renault, Toyota and Vauxhall to offer home charging solutions for the manufacturers' latest plug-in vehicles.

Dan Taylor, director of new ventures at British Gas, commented: ‘It is exciting to see the Plugged-in Places initiative growing and to be part of Cenex’s scheme, which will help make driving an electric vehicle in the Midlands a reality.

‘With our network of engineers, we can help make buying an electric vehicle accessible and convenient through specialist advice and the installation of charging points.’

Buyers will also be offered access to public charging points on the Plugged-in Midlands scheme until April 2013. In turn, this will allow them to use charging points included in the Source East region, which reaches as far as London.

Adrian Vinsome, Cenex head of programmes and Midlands Plugged-in Places SRO, added: ‘The Midlands already has the highest number of electric vehicles registered outside of London, and I’m sure that this offer will help to strengthen the region’s lead in electric motoring.’
