Mitsubishi Builds America's First Solar Charging Point

Located at the Mitsubishi Motors North America headquarters in Cypress, California, the facility marks the first collaboration with Mitsubishi Electric and Electronics USA Inc, based a few blocks away in Orange county.

The station features 96 175W photovoltaic modules, each made using 100% lead-free solder and featuring a relatively high sunlight-to-energy conversion ratio. Up to four vehicles can charge at once, for free, with a quick charging mode capable of topping the Mitsubishi i up to 80% in 25 minutes.

It is hoped that the station will become a gateway charging pad for commuters moving between Los Angeles and Orange county.

Katsuya Takamiya, president and chief executive officer, Mitsubishi Electric & Electronics USA, said: ‘This project will build awareness of solar power's versatility and efficiency. As electric vehicles' popularity grows, we expect to see more charging stations at large employers, automobile dealerships, shopping centers and schools, where cars can charge while people work, shop or study.’

The Mitsubishi i, a North American version of the i-MiEV, launches in America this November.
