New Ovo app offers discounted rates at over 34,000 UK public chargers
Energy firm Ovo has launched a new app to provide EV drivers with discounted charging rates across the UK.
Available to all EV owners, not just Ovo customers, the Charge Anywhere service will help people find, use and pay for charging via the Ovo Charge app.
Users will be able to access more than 34,000 public chargers across the UK – and 400,00 across Europe.
Charge Anywhere customers will also have the chance to win free charging miles through a dedicated rewards programme.
Charge Anywhere lets EV drivers unlock savings of more than £220 a year through one of Ovo Charge’s in-app ‘Boost’ plans.
For a monthly fee of £2 for ‘Light Boost’ and £8 for ‘Turbo Boost’, drivers can access discounts of 10-15% compared to pay-as-you-go public charging rates – saving up to £4.28 on every charge.
Subscribers to ‘Boost’ plans will also have access to exclusive benefits and features so they can get even more from the app and plans can be cancelled at any time.
Ovo Charge will show EV drivers the live availability and reliability of nearby public charging points so they aren’t ‘caught short’. Customers will be able to comment and upload photos of the charge points in the app, giving the community up-to-date information for each charger.
All Charge Anywhere customers will be able to see how much energy they’ve used and associated costs as well as being able to pay in the app without the hassle of having to switch between different cards and logins.
Mat Moakes, chief commercial officer at Ovo, said: “We’ve made Charge Anywhere available to all EV drivers – not just Ovo customers – because we want to help more people drive sustainably. Charge Anywhere will help drivers find, use and pay for charging points and access discounted rates, with the potential to save them hundreds of pounds each year.”
The Charge Anywhere service complements the existing Charge Anytime plan. Launched last year, it enables EV owners to charge their cars at home for 7p per kWh at any time of day and has saved customers more than £6m, according to Ovo.
