New TMC app to identify ‘EV-compatible’ drivers

TMC has launched a brand-new app to help companies electrify their fleets by identifying ‘EV-compatible’ drivers.

The TMC app automatically tracks drivers’ journeys via GPS to assess whether an electric vehicle would work for them

Part of the firm’s data-led TMC-e service to help businesses successfully deploy and manage electric vehicles, the app automatically tracks drivers’ journeys via GPS to assess whether an electric vehicle would work for them.

It also asks the driver a series of short questions, such as whether they own or rent their home and do they have a driveway, to assess whether a home charging point could be installed.

And the app captures information about the user’s current energy supplier to calculate the expected cost per mile, should the driver move to an electric vehicle.

The end result is a list of drivers who are compatible with driving today’s electric vehicle models and even a list of recommended vehicles suitable for each driver, based on their profile.

Managing director Paul Hollick explained: “The app is light touch for both the company and drivers. It is really simple to set up and runs in the background with minimal intervention required from the driver. The output shows how compatible each driver is with an electric vehicle to help ramp up the electrification of fleets.”

To address privacy concerns, drivers can choose when the app records their journey and have the option to categorise journeys as business or private. They can also indicate whether they could have easily charged up on route.

All information is collated and reported back to the driver, via the dashboard on the app, while the business has access to an online fleet dashboard. This provides an overview of the whole fleet and includes all the information on each driver – enabling firms to assess the feasibility of electric vehicles based on real-world information.

Using the drivers’ electric tariff information, TMC can also estimate the expected real-world cost per mile in an electric vehicle and compare this to the average cost per mile of each employee’s current vehicle.

The app is the latest addition to TMC’s TMC-e service that also includes reimbursement solutions for EV drivers, a public charge card and ongoing electric vehicle analysis and consultancy. It also recently added new functionality to its Mileage Track mobile app, enabling users to easily locate charge points.
