Waylands Group has signed up smart charging company Ohme as its new charging partner.

Ohme’s smart chargers enable drivers to charge when energy is cheapest and greenest

The agreement will see the family-run and -owned dealer group recommend Ohme chargers for all of its new and used electrified vehicle sales with an Ohme Home Pro charger in showrooms for customers to view.

The group spans 10 retailers across the Volvo, Kia, MG and Polestar brands as well as its new Waylands E location that sells pre-owned EVs and PHEVs.

John O’Hanlon from the Waylands Group said: “Ohme’s dynamic smart charging capability, award-winning products and excellent customer service made it the obvious choice for Waylands. With EVs and PHEVs accounting for almost 30% of our new car sales, the e-mobility revolution is becoming increasingly important and, together with Ohme, the Waylands Group is at the forefront of that change.”

Ohme’s smart chargers can connect with the grid in real time and automatically adjust charging so drivers can take advantage of low-price charging with off-peak tariffs. A full charge on an all-electric Kia EV6 with an Ohme charger on a smart off-peak tariff, such as Octopus Intelligent, could cost just £7.70 for a WLTP driving range of 328 miles.

Ohme also offers drivers the option to charge their car when renewable energy generation on the national grid is at its highest, further lowering their CO2 impact.

“Our partnership with the Waylands Group underlines Ohme’s position as one of the UK’s fastest-growing charging companies,” said David Watson, CEO at Ohme. “Like Ohme, the Group has shown that it’s not afraid to make innovative and brave decisions with the likes of its Waylands E site launched last summer and we’re looking forward to working together to give EV drivers a seamless charging experience with reduced running costs.”

Ohme is also the official charger provider for Motability Operations and Volkswagen Group in the UK and Ireland. More tie-ups with dealer groups are expected to follow.
