Ovo Energy offers 10p per kWh charge costs with new smart charging plan
Ovo Energy has launched a new smart charging electric vehicle plan to help customers cut costs.
Charge Anytime is a tariff add-on that allows eligible customers to access a home charging rate of 10p per kWh (equating to 3p a mile), which is three times cheaper than the UK’s average rate (34p per kWh).
The new plan is powered by energy software platform Kaluza, part of Ovo Group, and works by using algorithms that optimise EV charging in response to market dynamics when emissions and costs are low
It’s said to be the only unrestricted type-of-use tariff on the market and splits the EV charging costs from home electricity charges, crediting customers for the amount of electricity saved via EV smart charging every month.
Customers can save up to 71% in charging costs, potentially giving £350 a year back to customers, while also helping to protect the grid.
Users input when they need their car charged by using the app and the platform then automatically charges the EV at the cheapest and greenest times of the day.
Unlike other EV charging tariffs on the market, the new plan allows customers to enjoy a low, flat rate for their EV charging that is separate from their household energy use. This means customers are protected from energy price spikes and have greater control over their bills, all while becoming active participants in decarbonisation.
Mat Moakes, chief commercial officer at Ovo Energy, commented: “With the 2030 ban on petrol and diesel cars swiftly approaching, it’s critical we incentivise our customers to make the transition to EVs. We are offering the most competitive charging plan on the market with Charge Anytime, rewarding our customers with the most innovative and best value package available. At Ovo, we are committed to providing our customers with access to clean and affordable energy where possible, if we’re to reach our net zero by 2035 goal.”
