Polestar’s flagship 5 Grand Tourer is now on sale in the UK, teaming up Scandinavian design with all-electric drive and supercar levels of performance.

It’s the embodiment of the Precept concept, first unveiled in 2020 as a statement of intent for the brand’s future design, technology and sustainability vision and now fleshed out for production to square up to the Porsche Taycan.

The fourth vehicle in the brand’s current line-up alongside the Polestar 2, 3 and 4, it’s built on the Polestar Performance Architecture (PPA) – the brand’s first bespoke EV platform – and equipped with an 800V electrical architecture that also marks a brand first. This allows the Polestar 5 to charge at up to 350kW, giving a 10-80% battery charge in as little as 22 minutes.

Two versions are on sale, featuring a twin-motor setup and able to disconnect the rear motor for increased efficiency. The Dual Motor Launch edition produces 748hp and 812Nm, accelerating from 0-60mph in 3.8 seconds with a 416-mile WLTP range.

The Performance Launch edition offers 884hp and 1,015Nm, achieving 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds and a 351-mile WLTP range. Both variants are limited to 155mph.

The 5m long Grand Tourer features “modern, minimalist surfacing” that takes primary inspiration from aviation, as shown by its aerodynamic wing-like profile with Kamm-style tail. The Polestar 5 also features the largest panoramic glass roof of any Polestar so far – at just over 2m long and 1.25m wide

Inside, the 4+1 seat electric performance GT is equipped with front seats designed in collaboration with Recaro and featuring a low hip-point with supportive bolstering and “typical Swedish comfort”. Finish is Charcoal MicroTech as standard or optional Bridge of Weir Nappa leather in Charcoal or Zinc.

Natural fibre and recycled materials also feature throughout the interior and there’s a 14.5-inch portrait display, 9.0-inch driver display and 9.5-inch head-up display. The centre display runs a Polestar specific Android Automotive operating system with Google built-in that takes best of the best from both Polestar 3 and Polestar 4.

Audio is taken care of either by the Polestar High Performance Audio system with 10 speakers or the Bowers & Wilkins 21-speaker audio system with Tweeter-on-Top technology and 1,680 Watt power output.

The Pilot Assist function adjusts the vehicle’s speed and position in its chosen lane, at speeds of up to 93mph (150km/h).

Bespoke Michelin tyres, designed specifically for the chosen wheel combinations of Polestar 5, ranging from 20 to 22 inches.

The Dual Motor rides on BWI passive dampers, while the Performance upgrades to MagneRide adaptive dampers that read the road 1,000 times per second and can react within three milliseconds.

The Polestar 5 Dual Motor Launch edition is priced from £89,500 while the Performance Launch edition is available from £104,900.
