The confirmation ends months of speculation and will add another affordable EV to the growing list of options for drivers alongside the Citroën e-C3, Dacia Spring and Leapmotor C10.

In a statement, Renault’s CEO Fabric Cambolive said: “I’m pleased to confirm Renault Twingo will launch in the UK. I put all my attention on the challenge to launch Twingo in right-hand drive, because I believe a car under €20,000 equivalent has huge potential in the UK as well as Europe, both for opening up the segment because of its design, technology and dynamics as with R5 and R4, but also because it brings a new level of versatility for the class that I believe customers will respond to.

“Accessibility to EVs is critical for the future, and Twingo offers something new for Renault, and for all car buyers.”

Renault revealed the Twingo E-Tech prototype at the 2024 Paris Motor Show but its arrival in the UK had been in doubt due to the cost of converting it to right-hand drive. The original Twingo, which launched in 1993, only arrived in RHD drive form for its second generation and the third-generation Twingo EV was never offered in the UK.

Developed by Renault’s new Ampere spin-off EV arm, the fourth-generation Twingo fulfils Renault’s pledge to put electric mobility within ever more people’s reach.

Renault has previously said the “game changer” EV will offer high efficiency figures while its lifetime emissions will be around 75% lower than the “average European ICE car” sold in 2023.

It’s the latest reboot of an iconic Renault model, following in the footsteps of the 4 and 5, and will sit on the same AmpR Small platform as these two and Nissan’s forthcoming electric city car.
