It’s the production version of the Scénic Vision concept car revealed last year and the first to adopt the brand’s new sustainability strategy, which focuses on the environment, safety and inclusion.

The new arrival revives the Scénic name, previously used for the brand’s popular MPV range in the 1990s.

It’s built on the group’s CMF-EV platform, shared with the Megane E-Tech Electric and Nissan Ariya, and becomes Renault’s second C-segment EV developed under the ‘Renaulution’ strategy, after the Megane. It will be positioned above the Megane, measuring 4.49m long, 1.9m wide and 1.59m high and with a focus on optimised interior space.

Pre-production versions of the Scénic E-Tech are already heading out onto the road for trials. Built at the Douai ElectriCity factory, the cars are covered with a bespoke pattern from Renault Design that draws on the brand’s logo to provide a “dazzle-like” camouflage.

The Scénic concept features a hydrogen fuel cell range-extender but the production version is expected to feature a battery-electric powertrain likely to cross over with the Megane E-Tech. The Megane has a choice of powertrains, featuring a 131hp motor/40kWh battery or a 220hp motor/60kWh battery (the latter as standard in the UK), giving up to 280 miles (450km) of range.

The Renault Scénic E-Tech will debut at the Munich motor show on 4 September.
