Tesla Model S gets five-star Euro NCAP rating

With a score of 82% and 77% for adult and child occupant protection, 66% for pedestrian protection and a 71% score for safety assistance, the results put the Model S on par with its key executive-class rivals.

Next year, Tesla will introduce a package of 12 ultrasonic sensors, a forward-looking camera and radar and digitally-controlled electronic brake booster under its Autopilot package, which will enable partially autonomous driving and should boost its safety assistance score.

Results from Euro NCAP mean the Model S has five-star ratings in Europe and the United States, despite very different testing procedures. In the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) test in the U.S., Tesla is the third manufacturer to achieve a full five stars in all subcategories since the latest scheme was introduced in 2011.
