TMC has published new advice for fleets on reimbursing mileage for electric and plug-in hybrid cars (PHEVs).

The guide advises on how fleets can calculate their own rates for EVs and PHEVs.

Aimed at both company-run and ‘grey fleet’ cars, the guide shows how fleets can calculate their own rates for EVs and PHEVs, and apply them in place of HMRC’s Advisory Fuel Rates or Approved Mileage Allowance Payments, which currently only cover petrol and diesel vehicles.

The guide’s advice also covers business mileage incurred by private plug-in owners, describing how fleets can calculate the correct adjustments to AMAPs.

Paul Hollick, managing director of TMC and, said uncertainty around reimbursing for electric and hybrid mileage is holding back fleets’ adoption of ultra-low emission vehicles – a view echoed by ACFO, which called on HMRC last month to publish Advisory Fuel Rates for plug-in cars for Q3 onwards to increase take-up and mass adoption by fleets, after having already already provided HMRC with real-world mileage reimbursement figures for 100% electric vehicles, range extended electric vehicles, and plug-in hybrid petrol and diesel models.

Paul Hollick, who is also chair of the Institute of Car Fleet Management, said: “We hope our advice will give companies the confidence to move forward with ULEVs rather than waiting for the day when, or perhaps if, HMRC respond with AFRs for plug-ins and plug-in hybrids.”
