Toyota RAV4 plug-in hybrid due mid-2020 with sub-30g/km CO2
Toyota has confirmed plans to launch the first-ever plug-in hybrid version of the RAV4 in the second half of 2020.
Revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the range-topping RAV4 PHEV will join the petrol-electric hybrid version, featuring a higher-output 2.5-litre petrol engine and with a new, high-capacity lithium-ion battery, bringing increased power – total output stands at 306hp – and a greater all-electric range.
Full details of the powertrain are yet to be revealed but the brand says it will deliver a claimed class-leading electric driving range of more than 60km (37 miles), exceeding the 50km (31-mile) average European daily commuting distance.
It’ll also target best-in-class performance and efficiency, with an expected 6.2-second 0-62mph time and WLTP-rated CO2 emissions of less than 30g/km.
The new RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid will be introduced in the second half of 2020, with the specific UK on-sale date to be announced closer to the time.
