A new Electric Super Hub has gone live at Moto Wetherby, providing drivers with a bank of 12 ultra-rapid 350kW-capable chargers.

Wetherby is the eighth ultra-rapid hub to launch from Moto and Gridserve and will enable EV drivers to add up to 100 miles of range in less than 10 minutes

It’s the eighth ultra-rapid hub to launch from Moto and Gridserve and will enable EV drivers to add up to 100 miles of range in less than 10 minutes.

The two firms continue to work together nationwide to transform access to charging facilities on the UK’s motorways, reduce range anxiety for EV motorists and encourage more car owners to switch to electric vehicles.

Already this year, Moto and Gridserve have added 65 ultra-rapid chargers across seven new Electric Super Hubs – located in historically underserved areas of the UK, including Swansea, Exeter, Thurrock, Burton-in-Kendal, Heston West and Severn View. They also have a particular focus on new charging options for the North to ensure the switch to electric cars is simple and democratic.

Toddington Harper, CEO of Gridserve, commented: “We are committed to building an awesome UK-wide charging network, enabling anyone, anywhere, in any type of EV to take on any journey and have a great customer experience, and with the opening of Moto Wetherby, we are able to deliver more people in the North of England this experience.”

All 12 chargers at Moto Wetherby are online now – with the option to expand the site as needed.

As with all the Gridserve Electric Super Hubs at Moto locations, the new site has been designed to feature both CCS and CHAdeMO connectors, accept contactless payments and provide at least one extra-wide accessible charging bay for every six EV charging spaces.

Real-time status updates are shared with a myriad of the most popular EV charging maps, including Zap-Map, so drivers can plan ahead before arriving.

Moto is also currently on track to exceed government-set targets of six high-power chargers at each of its sites by 2023.

Chief executive Ken McMeikan said: “As the largest UK Motorway Services Operator, we are continuing our mission to transform the UK’s rest stop experience, and reducing range anxiety by revolutionising the EV charging experience for motorists on motorways is at the heart of our plans. We are delighted to continue our roll-out of the High Power Charging Hubs and we will be opening more hubs at all of our Motorway Service Areas across the country in the coming 12 months.”

The new Electric Super Hub at Moto Wetherby launches as latest Zap-Map stats show the number of ultra-rapid charge points in the UK has grown almost 40% since the end of 2021. The growth in ultra-rapid charge points is largely due to networks such as MFG EV Power, InstaVolt and Gridserve’s Electric Highway, which are rolling out high-speed charging ‘hubs’ of at least six devices across the country.

Zap-Map added that the rise shows that the ultra-rapid charging roll-out is more than keeping pace with the 29% increase in EV drivers in the first half of 2022.
