Updated Volkswagen ID.3 gets world premiere
Volkswagen has revealed its updated ID.3 electric hatch, which has been given an early facelift in response to customer demands.
On sale from the spring, the model launches two and a half years after the original came to market and introduces sharper exterior design, improved material quality in the interior and updated software.
Imelda Labbé, head of sales, marketing and after sales at Volkswagen, said: “The new ID.3 demonstrates our clear commitment to quality, design and operability, and we have systematically taken on board the wishes of our customers.”
Concerns over software have now been addressed and the revised ID.3 uses a latest-generation version, delivering improved system performance and able to receive over-the-air updates. Updates include a 12-inch central touchscreen as standard now, replacing the previous 10-inch screen, and a 5.3-inch driver display.
Volkswagen has also tackled customer feedback on ease of using the infotainment system and has updated the menu structure with a clearer layout.
Optional technology includes an augmented reality head-up display and a Travel Assist function with swarm data to help drivers keep in lane.
It’s also addressed customer concerns on charging, introducing standard functions such as Plug & Charge – where the vehicle authenticates itself and starts the charging process when the charging cable is plugged in at a charging station – and an intelligent Electric Vehicle Route Planner.
Design changes bring a bolder exterior with a revised bumper and extended paintwork choices.
The interior uses higher-quality materials including soft, foam-backed surfaces in the cockpit and remodelled interior door trims in response to customer points.
As before, the powertrain delivers 204bhp while battery options include 58kWh and 77kWh battery, giving a range of up to 339 miles.
Prices and full equipment details are yet to be announced.
