Volvo has extended the line-up for its XC40 Recharge electric SUV with a choice of three different trims, bringing lower entry-level pricing.

Volvo XC40 Recharge Twin

Priced from £49,950, the line-up for the brand’s first fully electric car now includes Twin, Twin Plus and Twin Pro versions, all of which are now available to buy online. Volvo’s plan is to shift all sales online by 2030, by which date it will only sell pure electric cars.

All are based on the existing powertrain, which features twin electric motors, providing all-wheel drive as standard and delivering 408hp and a 0-62mph time of 4.9 seconds. The

78kWh lithium-ion battery gives a WLTP range of up to 259 miles, depending on model specification, and charging from zero to 80% capacity can be carried out in as a little as 40 minutes when using a 150kW (DC) fast charger.

The range also benefits from a 1% Benefit-in-Kind for the current tax year, rising to just 2% for 2022/23.

All three new versions are equipped with Volvo’s Android-based infotainment system with Google Maps, Google Assistant and access to the Google Play Store and including four years of data.

Other standard features include automatic LED headlights with Active High Beam, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, a 12.3-inch progressive driver’s information display, powered tailgate, rear parking sensors and 19-inch alloy wheels.

The Recharge Twin Plus specification, priced from £52,950, includes power-adjustable heated front seats, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, energy-efficient heat pump system, front parking sensors and reversing camera.

The top-spec XC40 Recharge Twin Pro is priced from £56,700 and features 360-degree parking camera system, panoramic sunroof, 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, leather/nubuck upholstery, 20-inch alloy wheels and Pilot Assist with adaptive cruise control and steering assistance.

The line-up is available to purchase outright or can be accessed via two different Care by Volvo subscription packages – expected to account for 95% of retail business. The Care by Volvo Fixed subscription package offers the XC40 Recharge from £619 a month over a three-year term. Or customers can chose the Care by Volvo Flexible option, from £769 a month, with an open-ended, three-month rolling contract and an initial 30-day trial period with no notice requirement.

The monthly subscription packages also include scheduled servicing, wear-and-tear maintenance, vehicle tax, replacement tyres and roadside assistance cover, and insurance can be factored into the monthly fee.
