Wireless charger for electric CVs gets 2014 launch

By / 11 years ago / International News / No Comments

Set to launch under the company’s Momentum Charger brand, the inductive charging equipment offers a powerful charge for electric commercial vehicles over a 12-inch gap.

The technology is weatherproof and automatically adjusts to suit the vehicle’s battery, and Momentum said pricing will be the same or lower than a wired charging unit.

Andy Daga, the company's chairman and CEO, explained: ‘The ability to deliver high power to multiple classes of vehicles reliably and automatically is transformational. Wireless charging presents a value proposition that is essential to accelerate the sale and use of electric vehicles.’

Real-world trials are ongoing. Momentum has just delivered two Ford E-450 buses, converted to electric power and equipped with inductive charging hardware, to the Pennsylvania regional transportation authority.

The buses are said to offer an 80% reduction in fuel costs compared to the original V10 petrol engine.
