Hyundai previews electric and hybrid IONIQ, due in 2016

Named IONIQ, the model will get its European debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March before going on sale later in the year. It’s likely that this will share its all-new platform with the Kia Niro, a hybrid-only crossover which is also due for a 2016 launch.

Woong-Chul Yang,Head of Hyundai Motor R&D Center said, “Our vision for future mobility focuses on choice, with a variety of powertrain options to suit customers’ varied lifestyles, without compromising on design or driving enjoyment.

“IONIQ embodies Hyundai Motor’s vision to shift the automotive paradigm and future mobility; IONIQ is the fruit of our efforts to become the leader in the global green car market.”
