The Alpine A390 electric crossover is about to go on sale in the UK, priced from £61,390 and set for first deliveries in the spring.

The hotly anticipated electric newcomer will bring the fight to the Porsche Macan EV, BMW iX3 and more, while also marking Alpine’s debut in the SUV sector.

It’s the second car from Alpine within its fully electric Dream Garage alongside the Renault 5-based A290. The Renault Group’s performance brand division also sells the A110 two-seater sports coupé.

The A390 is based on the Renault Group’s AmpR Medium platform, also used by the Renault Scenic E-Tech and Nissan Ariya, but heavily reworked with significant Alpine-specific performance enhancements, including a tri-motor powertrain, bespoke chassis components, and a focus on sporty handling, supported by Alpine’s Active Torque Vectoring system.

In Alpine’s words, it “brings the brand’s unmistakable DNA into an entirely new segment, delivering the agility and emotion of a sports car with the everyday versatility of a five-seat fastback”. Practical features include seating for five and a 532-litre boot with an optional double floor.

Three versions will be available from launch. The GT develops 400hp and accelerates from 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds, while the more powerful GTS produces 470hp and up to 824Nm of torque for a 0-62mph time of 3.9 seconds. The Premiere Edition, based on the GT, sits between the two as a “high-spec celebration” and limited to just 390 examples.

All three feature the same 89kWh battery that delivers up to 345 miles of WLTP range (pending homologation) for the GT/Premiere Edition versions and 312 miles for the high-performance GTS.

Charging speeds enable up to 190kW at DC devices, allowing a 15-80% charge in around 25 minutes. An 11kW AC bidirectional charger is standard, with a 22kW unit available as an option and fitted as standard to the Premiere Edition.

The interior is centred around the “refined and immersive Alpine feel@one cockpit with a strong focus on driver engagement”. The driver gets a 12.3-inch instrument display and there’s a 12-inch central screen featuring Alpine-specific graphics, Google built-in services, an EV route planner and over-the-air updates.

The A390 also focuses on “elevated” materials and craftsmanship, with aluminium Devialet speaker grilles, microfibre headlining and a choice of Alpine Sport or Sabelt bucket seats depending on trim.

Entry-level GT versions are kitted out with 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels with Michelin Sport EV tyres, anodised Alpine branded six-piston monobloc front brake calipers, adaptive headlights with LED Matrix Vision technology, a body-coloured roof and power tailgate.

The interior is adorned with a two-tone combination of Alcantara and Nappa leather in deep blue and grey with double stitching, a black headliner, heated six-way powered memory Alpine Sport seats with perforated Alcantara, dual-zone automatic climate control with air purification function, powered, heated, auto-folding side mirrors with puddle lamps and projected Alpine logo, heated steering wheel in Deep Blue Nappa leather, a frameless auto-dimming interior mirror, centre console with transmission buttons inspired by the A110, and interior ambient lighting with Alpine monogram.

The twin screens also come as standard, complete with the Devialet audio system with 13 speakers, plus wireless smartphone replication with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with Alpine Telemetrics; the brand’s performance-focused data analysis system and smartphone app for its cars.

Standard-fit driver assistance and safety systems include automatic lights and wipers with rain sensor, intelligent adaptive cruise control and speed limiter, safe distance alert, emergency brake assist, advanced distraction recognition with emergency stop assist, lane keeping assistant, blind spot warning and intervention and safe occupant exit alert.

The A390 also gets a driver attention monitoring system, traffic sign recognition with overspeed alert, automatic urban and interurban emergency braking with detection of cars, pedestrians, cyclists and junctions, reverse pedestrian warning, reverse parking exit warning, front, side and rear parking assistance, and a 360-degree camera with around view monitor.

On top of all this, the Premier Edition adds 20-inch alloy wheels in a black painted matte finish, Bleu Alpine branded six-piston monobloc front brake calipers, a contrasting black roof, the French flag on the rear C-pillar, eight-way powered and heated Alpine Sport front seats by Sabelt with two-tone Nappa leather and massage function and a ‘Driving’ pack with Active driver assistance and hands-free parking. It also upgrades to the faster 22kW three-phase AC charger, again with bidirectional charging. The Premier Edition is priced from £65,390.

The range-topping A390 GTS is priced £69,390 and, along with the 470hp powertrain, upgrades to 21-inch diamond-cut forged wheels with high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, plus Alpine-branded six-piston monobloc front brake calipers in Rouge Racing. The interior also gets a makeover with black Alcantara headliner, driver and passenger eight-way powered and heated memory Alpine Sport seats by Sabelt with two-tone Nappa leather and massage function, the Devialet XtremeSound audio system with 13 speakers and Space mode, the Alpine Telemetrics Expert, plus the ‘Driving’ pack with active driver assistance and hands-free parking.
