Zapgo has gone live with its largest charging site to date following the opening of a new ultra-rapid hub at Barrow-in-Furness.

Located at the Sowerby Wood Business Park, the site reflects the company’s focus on investing in the north of England to tackle infrastructure gaps.

Latest figures show that the area around Barrow-in-Furness has been historically underserved by charging infrastructure, with just 0.05 public chargers per electric vehicle, despite the significant number of EV drivers visiting the nearby Lake District National Park.

Zapgo’s new site is one of only three ultra-rapid charging sites in the area and, with 60,000 local residents in Barrow-in-Furness and approximately 18-19 million visitors to the Lake District National Park annually, it provides much-needed public charging facilities to local EV owners and visitors alike.

The site features 10 charging bays, including two fully accessible bays, served by five ultra-rapid 200kW Alpitronic chargers, allowing EV drivers to add significant range within minutes.

The hub also offers varied driver amenities that include a rest room with a coffee machine, vending machine and toilets. The site also features a defibrillator.

To mark the launch, Zapgo is offering drivers an introductory price of 50p/kWh at the site for the first two weeks, until 28 September 2026.

Zapgo has partnered with local Barrow businesses to maintain the hub, directly supporting the nearby community and economy.
