One year on from the presentation of the concept, Peugeot’s venerated GTi label has returned and gone electric with the arrival of the E-208 hot hatch.
The Peugeot E-208 GTi is priced from £34,995 in the UK before incentives, with the anticipated £1,500 Electric Car Grant potentially lowering the entry point to £33,495.
Unveiled as the French marque celebrates 100 years since its first time racing at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, the new E-208 GTi remains incredibly close to the original 2025 concept.
Engineered by Peugeot Design, it blends “French charisma and iconic GTi style” with “exceptional driving sensations and the best performance in its segment”.
It’s powered by a 281hp electric motor that’s equipped with motorsport-derived control software, delivering 345Nm of torque, a 0-62mph time of 5.5 seconds and limited top speed of 112mph.
The motor is fed by the same 54kWh gross battery (51kWh useable) as the E-208, but its management has been adapted to meet the demands of the GTi motor.
Drivers get a free choice of high-performance tyres. With the standard Michelin Pilot Sport 4S performance tyres, WLTP range is 219 miles. This rises to 233 miles with the Hankook Ventus S1 Evo3 tyres as a no-cost option.
According to Peugeot Sport engineers, it’s the most powerful and best-performing model in the B-segment.
The E-208 chassis receives numerous performance modifications to elevate its handling and stability. The body is lowered by 25mm to reduce body roll, while the track width is widened by 56mm at the front and 28mm at the rear. This wider stance is complemented by 18-inch wheels wrapped in 215/40 R18 high-performance tyres.
To optimise responsiveness and balance, engineers added a stiff 31mm rear anti-roll bar while retaining the original 17mm front bar. This setup optimises cornering behaviour, working in harmony with the low centre of gravity created by the under-floor battery placement. Traction and power delivery are further enhanced by a mechanical limited-slip differential. Integrated directly into the reduction gearbox, it ensures maximum grip even in low-traction conditions.
The ride delivers superior control thanks to bespoke springs and exclusive dampers. These units utilise hydraulic bump stops, a technology proven by Peugeot Sport in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). Stopping power is equally impressive, featuring 355mm front discs paired with fixed four-piston callipers designed for optimal cooling. These front callipers are finished in signature performance red, while the standard rear brakes are retained for efficiency over showmanship.
Driver dynamics are enhanced by a dual-mode ESP that offers everyday safety or a permissive Sport mode for track use. When switching to Sport mode, regenerative braking is completely disabled, allowing the driver to focus purely on performance driving.
GTi red accents feature throughout the car. On the exterior, this signature colour highlights the front grille, headlights, and Peugeot emblem, before extending to the wheel arches, front brake callipers and the rear spoiler. It also distinguishes the ‘208 GTi’ C-pillar badges and flows through to the cabin, which gets exclusive front seats, a unique steering wheel and steering calibration and an “immersive” visual and sound interface.
Equipment includes the Peugeot i-Connect Advanced premium, fully connected infotainment ecosystem, plus high-performance connected TomTom navigation, “OK Peugeot” voice control and wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto.
The E-208 GTi also gets a connected route planner to optimise range and charging, vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability to power external devices and access to the MyPeugeot app for remote pre conditioning, charging schedules and navigation planning.
Charging the vehicle is designed to be fast and simple. For standard home or workplace charging, a 7.4kW wallbox achieves a full charge in four hours and 40 minutes. When on the move, a 100kW DC rapid charger replenishes the battery from 20% to 80% in under 30 minutes. To protect long-term battery health during everyday use, drivers can also utilise a dedicated AC 80% charge limit function.
As with all 100% electric Peugeot models, the E-208 GTi benefits from vehicle and battery warranties of up to eight years / 100,000 miles.
