Nissan has introduced a service-activated warranty programme that extends electric vehicle coverage up to six years or 100,000 miles.

The new initiative, which went live on 1 July, boosts EV coverage by adding 12 months of manufacturer protection each time an eligible vehicle undergoes its scheduled maintenance at an official dealership.

The offer applies to the new Micra – including all vehicles sold since launch – alongside the next-generation Leaf that arrives in showrooms this summer, plus the 2026 model year Ariya.

Future Nissan all-electric passenger vehicles will also be eligible. Upcoming models include the first-ever Juke EV plus a new ultra-compact city car derived from the Renault Twingo. Both are due for launch in 2027.

The program aims to give Nissan a distinct competitive edge in the UK aftersales market while addressing consumer concerns over long-term EV reliability and residual values.

All Nissan electric vehicle models also qualify for the Government’s Electric Car Grant, which celebrated its one-year anniversary this week. Together with this warranty campaign, the grant further enhances the appeal of Nissan’s electric vehicle range.

How the service-activated warranty programme works

All qualifying vehicles continue to benefit from Nissan’s standard manufacturer warranty, which provides coverage for three years or 60,000 miles, whichever is reached sooner.

Following the expiry of the manufacturer’s warranty, customers can activate an additional 12 months of cover each year by completing an eligible Nissan service within the retailer network and in line with Nissan’s recommended service schedule.

From that point, each subsequent annual service completed by an authorised repairer triggers an additional 12-month block of protection. This rolling extension continues until the car hits its sixth year or reaches 100,000 miles.

The service prior to their manufacturer warranty expiry date (typically the third inspection) must have been carried out within the Nissan retailer network to ensure continuous coverage.

The new programme provides additional value and peace of mind for Nissan BEV buyers and positively differentiates the company’s aftersales proposition from that of many of its competitors.

Nissan has outlined flexible rules for owners who have previously used independent mechanics. If their car still has a full-service history, they can have the warranty applied by taking their vehicle in for a service within the Nissan network. If the vehicle does not have a full-service history, an additional check may be needed to be carried out as well as a routine inspection before a car can become eligible.

For all Nissan battery electric vehicles, a separate lithium-ion battery warranty remains in place for a period of up to eight years (or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first).

Drivers of pre-owned new-generation Micra, Leaf and 2026MY Ariya models are also included in the new service-activated warranty programme, with similar criteria applying to their routine servicing and maintenance.

As with new cars, used BEVs can benefit from warranty cover up to the age of six years / 100,000 miles, with eligibility dependent on service work being carried out within the Nissan retailer network.
