Priced from £22,245, the all-electric ‘aero-hatch’ targets drivers seeking an affordable, efficient and practical compact electric car, delivering a new rival to the Renault 5 and Volkswagen ID. Polo, alongside models such the Cupra Raval.

Ashley Andrew, president of Hyundai & Genesis UK, said the Ioniq brand is recognised for smart design, efficiency and technology. The new Ioniq 3 aims to deliver this innovation at a price point “that makes electric mobility attainable for even more households”.

Built on a 400V architecture, the Ioniq 3 blends everyday practicality with rapid DC top-ups and 11kW AC charging. The line-up offers two battery sizes across four distinct trims – Advance, Premium, Ultimate and N Line Evo – although the smaller battery is only available on the entry grade.

Standard Range cars feature a 42.2kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack that’s good for a maximum range of 213 miles. The battery feeds a 147hp front motor, launching the car from 0 to 62mph in 9.0 seconds. DC peak charging rate is 119kW, which replenishes the battery from 10% to 80% capacity in 29 minutes.

The Long Range variant swaps out the base battery for a larger 61.0kWh nickel manganese cobalt pack, which boosts total driving range to a maximum 308 miles. This model comes with a 135hp motor, slowing the 0-62mph acceleration time to 9.6 seconds. Maximum fast-charging speed also drops slightly to a peak of 110kW, meaning the standard 10% to 80% charging cycle takes 30 minutes to complete.

Long Range models are expected to qualify for the Government’s £1,500 Electric Car Grant (ECG), but Hyundai is offering an immediate equivalent ‘Reservation Saving’ to bridge the gap.

Although the Ioniq 3 has a supermini-sized footprint, its interior has been designed to deliver space and storage typically associated with larger vehicles. Practical features include an open bridge floating centre console, adjustable cup holders for large drinks bottles, Megabox underfloor storage and total boot capacity of 441 litres.

Styling cascades Hyundai’s Art of Steel design language to the compact EV segment. The Aero Hatch body shape combines aerodynamic efficiency with generous interior space, supported by a target drag coefficient of approximately 0.263 and signature pixel lighting that reinforces the Hyundai Ioniq electric vehicle identity.

Customers wanting a sportier look can choose the N Line Evo. This adds in bold N Line styling changes to the front and rear including a higher and wider rear spoiler with lower diffuser, bespoke 19-inch black alloy wheels, black mirror caps and N Line badging.

The Ioniq 3 is also the first European Hyundai model to feature Pleos Connect, Hyundai’s infotainment system based on Android Automotive OS. The system is available with a 12.9-inch or 14.6-inch display and supports intuitive access to vehicle functions, navigation and connectivity.

Other key technologies include Hyundai Digital Key 2, Plug & Charge, an integrated EV route planner, interior and exterior vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality and Memory Reverse Assist, which can memorise the last 50 metres of driving inputs to assist with subsequent manoeuvres such as reversing out of tight parking spaces.

Four trims are available. Entry-level Advance is offered with either the Standard-Range 42kWh 147hp powertrain priced from £22,245 or the 61kWh 135hp Long-Range powertrain, which starts from £25,745 and drops to £24,245 with either the Hyundai Reservation Saving or the anticipated Electric Car Grant. Official range stands at 213 miles and 308 miles respectively.

Equipment includes 16-inch alloy wheels, LED front headlamps and rear lamps, front and rear parking sensors, a 12.9-inch infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear view monitor, smart key with push-button start, smart cruise control with stop-and-go and an electronic parking brake.

Standard safety equipment delivers high beam assist, forward collision-avoidance assist, lane keep assist with lane follow assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist and blind-spot collision-avoidance assist.

Premium models are only available with the 61kWh 135hp powertrain and are priced from £27,445 (£25,945 with either/or Hyundai Reservation Saving/ anticipated ECG). Expected range is up to 303 miles.

Equipment adds 17-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, battery heating and pre-conditioning, a 9.9-inch digital information cluster, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, electrically folding door mirrors, wireless smartphone charger, seat back pockets, solar windscreen and passenger seat height adjustment. Premium options also include the EV Pack with heat pump and vehicle-to-load functions.

Next up is the Ioniq 3 Ultimate, priced from £29,945 (£28,445 with either/or Hyundai Reservation Saving/anticipated ECG). All Ultimate models use the 61kWh 135hp powertrain.

Upgrades compared to Premium versions include 18-inch alloy wheels, navigation for the 12.9-inch infotainment system, matrix LED headlamps with dynamic welcome function, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, rear seat armrest, front seat lumbar support, rear air vents, reclining rear seats, cabin ambient lighting and highway drive assist with hands-on detection and navigation-based smart cruise control.
