On sale in the UK from October, the family hatchback arrives as an electric replacement for the retired A1 supermini and Q2 crossover, sitting at the bottom of the brand’s EV line-up as a rival to the Volvo EX30 and Cupra Born.

Prices start from £32,200 on-the-road in the UK and the newcomer is expected to qualify for a £1,500 subsidy under the UK’s Electric Car Grant scheme, potentially bringing the effective base price down to £30,700.

The A2 e-tron is based on the group’s MEB platform, making it a close technical sibling to the upgraded Volkswagen ID.3 Neo and Cupra Born.

It’s positioned as the most efficient Audi ever and delivers up to 401 miles of electric range, combining advanced aerodynamics with a highly optimised drive system for exceptionally low power consumption of 12.8kWh/100km.

Buyers will be able to choose from three battery capacities – 52kWh, 61kWh and 84kWh. These are linked to four rear-wheel-drive power options, ranging from an entry-level 170hp unit to a flagship 326hp model. The base 52kWh setup targets city drivers with a 263-mile range, while a mid-tier 190hp motor works with the 61kWh pack to achieve 320 miles. There’s also a model for long-distance cruisers that pairs a 231hp motor with the flagship 84kWh battery to unlock the vehicle’s headline 401-mile maximum range. For drivers prioritising performance, the range-topping 326hp model features the same 84kWh pack to power from 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds, while still delivering a 391-mile range.

DC fast charging is supported at speeds up to 183kW and the vehicle can also be used as a flexible energy storage system when needed, thanks to bidirectional charging. Drivers can also choose from four regenerative braking levels, including one-pedal driving via position B on the gear selector.

The batteries are powered by two distinct technologies. The smaller-capacity units use a space-saving cell-to-pack LFP design. This highly durable chemistry resists degradation, allowing drivers to comfortably charge to 100% daily while maintaining high output in freezing conditions. The 84kWh pack employs a module-based NMC composition.

Inside, the A2 e-tron offers a “compelling, spacious concept” equipped with a standard MMI panoramic display, which houses an 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit plus alongside a 12.8-inch  curved infotainment touchscreen. The system integrates an AI-powered Audi assistant and an e-tron route planner. Drivers can select an optional 1.6m2 panoramic glass roof that comes with a special coating that protects occupants from UV rays.

In a premium-segment first, Audi has introduced the patented Fidlock magnetic fastening system as standard equipment. This technology combines high-strength magnets with a physical mechanical lock, allowing drivers to securely latch accessories such as cupholders, cable bags or tie-down straps with a simple, one-handed motion. As standard, the cabin features three modular Fidlock adapters in the centre console and a matching cup holder. All compatible Fidlock products – such as those for cycling or outdoor activities – can also be used in the vehicle. Three additional Fidlock points are optionally available in the trunk: two in the left side panel and one in the right side panel.

The A2 e-tron has a boot volume of 396 litres that increases to 1,336 litres with the rear seats folded. Standard features in the boot include LED lighting, a 12V power outlet and four tie-down anchors.

Standard driver assistance features include adaptive cruise control, emergency brake assist, swerve assist and a reversing camera.

Full UK pricing and specification will be announced shortly and first customer deliveries are expected to start in early 2027.
