It’s the latest glimpse of the future for the brand and uses the Neue Klasse platform, which revives the name from the brand’s saloons from the 1960s and 70s and will underpin around six BMW models due to launch from 2025 to 2027.

The Vision Neue Klasse concept showcases a new design language for future Neue Klasse models, along with the next generation of the BMW iDrive, while also likely previewing a forthcoming all-electric 3 Series saloon replacement directly.

Design on the concept adopts a pared-down approach that retains signature features such as the BMW kidney grille and the carmaker’s distinctive lines, while adopting futuristic features that include three-dimensional lighting animation and 3D-printed light elements.Vision

The fully electric drivetrain will use sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology to deliver vastly improved operational efficiency thanks to latest electric motors and new, round battery cells that have a 20% higher energy density than the previous cells to bring multiple benefits.

Frank Weber, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Development, explained: “30% more range, 30% faster charging, 25% more efficiency – the Neue Klasse represents a major technological leap that will take EfficientDynamics to new heights.”

The concept also shows plans for increased use of secondary raw materials, resource-efficient production and optimised recycling for dismantling that will also reduce the carbon footprint of the Neue Klasse across the vehicle lifecycle.

The interior cuts down analogue operating controls and uses a new Panoramic Vision system to project information, not only into the driver’s line of sight but also across the entire width of the windscreen. This will complement the enhanced head-up display, the central display and multifunction buttons on the steering wheel while Intelligent Personal Assistant provides latest voice control features.

Weber added: “With the Neue Klasse, we have embarked on the biggest investment in the company’s history. We are not just writing the next chapter of BMW; we’re writing a whole new book. That’s why the Neue Klasse will certainly impact all model generations.”
