Cenex is joining the research team to a new project to power the grid through a smart electric vehicle car park.

The project will look at developing a secure platform for large numbers of EVs connected at a single location.

Part funded by Innovate UK, the Net-Form pilot will look at the feasibility of turning a Solihull car park into a MW-scale battery to provide power on demand to the electricity grid.

The 12-month project will look at developing a secure, dynamic data management platform for large numbers of electric vehicle batteries connected to the grid at a single location.

Project partners include Encraft, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, Costain PLC, Aston University and Western Power Distribution (WPD).

Robert Evans, CEO at Cenex, said: “This feasibility study targets consumer engagement, a key building block in understanding how to operationalise vehicle-to-grid operation in the UK.  We think this project will have some interesting outputs that will help shape the way EV owners interact with V2G in the future.”
