Citroën has opened orders for the plug-in hybrid variant of its C5 Aircross SUV.

Priced from £38,855, the PHEV version joins the hybrid and electric powertrains introduced last month, which are priced from £30,495 for the hybrid and £32,565 for the electric (incl. Electric Car Grant).

The plug-in hybrid system combines a 150hp turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with a 125hp electric motor that powers the front wheels. The engine and motor can operate independently or together, depending on driving conditions and selected modes. In Electric mode, the vehicle runs exclusively on electric power, aimed at city driving and low-emission zones. In Hybrid mode, the system intelligently switches between electric and petrol power or uses both based on performance needs. When operating together, the petrol engine and electric motor generate a peak power output of 195hp.

The new-generation C5 Aircross Plug-in Hybrid also features a 21kWh battery – nearly double that of the previous generation – enabling the car to drive solely on electric propulsion for up to 53 miles (WLTP EAER Combined). Equipped with a 7.4kW single-phase onboard charger, the battery can be fully recharged in two hours and 55 minutes using a 7.4kW AC charger.

The plug-in hybrid powertrain is available exclusively with the Max, which comes as standard with a 360-degree camera, extended head-up display, heated front seats and steering wheel, hands-free electric tailgate, and Drive Assist Pack 2.0 with semi-autonomous features.

As with the electric and hybrid models, the C5 Aircross Plug-In Hybrid is equipped with the brand’s progressive hydraulic cushions for the suspension to deliver a “remarkably smooth, almost gliding” ride.

The interior comes with Citroën Advanced Comfort seats, which combine plush, high-density foam with wider cushions and integrated heating, with optional ventilation and massage functions.

The cabin centres around a new 13-inch ‘waterfall’ HD touchscreen, mounted in a vertical floating display with both fully customisable and fixed sections for quick and easy access to essential functions at all times.

The cascade screen offers a large customisable area that displays 3D navigation, infotainment controls, and allows widgets to be programmed for direct access and positioned as desired over several pages. The new C5 Aircross also gets a 10-inch fully digital driver display.

Citroën’s new-generation C5 Aircross also delivers more space, technology compared to before, along with its first-ever fully electric variant.

Built on the same STLA Medium platform used by other Stellantis models such as the Peugeot 3008 and Vauxhall Grandland, it’s larger than before and features a more striking front-end with a bold new three-point LED light signature and a redesigned grille.

The 2.78m wheelbase gives rise to more interior space, particularly in the second row, where passengers get improved leg and headroom. The boot capacity is among the best in its class, from 651 litres (565 dm3 VDA) with the seats up, to 1,985 litres (1,668 dm3 VDA) with the rear bench folded. It also comes with a wide-opening boot, split-folding rear seats and a flat load area make loading.
