Dacia has upgraded its range of powertrains for the Duster SUV, delivering more power and efficiency.

Following its successful introduction on the larger Bigster SUV, the new hybrid 155 powertrain will soon be available on Duster. It combines a 111hp four-cylinder petrol engine, two electric motors (a 50hp motor and a high-voltage starter / generator), a 1.4kWh battery and an automatic electric gearbox. The engine is mated to a clutchless gearbox with four ratios for the ICE engine and two for the electric motors.

The regenerative braking function works alongside the battery, with its high energy recovery capacity, and the efficient automatic gearbox, allowing Duster to remain in all-electric mode for significant periods of time in the city. The Duster can also start in all-electric mode, adding to its efficiency.

The hybrid 155’s WLTP fuel efficiency figure of 61.4mpg is up 8% on the figure for the hybrid 140, with CO2 emissions of 105g/km; down by 7g/km.

The revamped Duster, which arrived in its current third-generation form in 2024, also gets a mild hybrid 140 powertrain as the “first entry for electrification”. This combines a new-generation 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine based on the Miller cycle with a 48V mild hybrid system and a six-speed manual gearbox.

The hybrid system supports the combustion engine during the start-up and acceleration phases, reducing average fuel consumption to 52.3mpg while CO2 emissions (122 g/km) are down by around 10% compared with an ICE of equivalent power, Dacia says.

Coinciding with the roll-out of these new powertrains, the Duster also gets a new-look interior with exclusive upholstery and matching trim on the Journey finish. Extreme trim now features new 18-inch black alloy wheels.

With the hybrid powertrains, both Extreme and Journey levels are now available with adaptive cruise control as standard.

Full pricing, alongside the start of orders, will be available from November 2025.
