Denza has confirmed UK pricing and specifications for its new D9 seven-seat premium MPV, which is open for orders.

Priced from £75,000 and available in two grades, the new model from BYD’s luxury arm brings the fight to the Lexus LM and Mercedes-Benz VLE.

The D9 joins the Z9 GT shooting brake, Bao 5 SUV and Yangwang U9 supercar as Denza takes the fight to established European premium brands.

It’s powered by an all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid powertrain that features two motors – a front-mounted unit that produces 231hp and a rear motor delivering 61hp – and a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. In most driving situations, this 120hp four-cylinder engine serves purely as a generator for the battery and electric motors, but during greater torque demands it provides extra mechanical power. The DM-i AWD powertrain allows the D9 to accelerate from 0-62mph in 8.6 seconds.

The 58.5kWh battery is capable of a 130-mile electric-only range, while the assistance of the petrol engine for longer journeys enables a range of 590 miles on a full charge and a full tank of fuel.

The D9 also gets BYD’s Flash Charging technology. This means that the D9’s battery can recharge from 10-70% in five minutes, 10-97% in nine minutes, while a 20-97% charge, even at -30°C, takes 12 minutes. This is the equivalent of a maximum charging power of 559kW.

The interior mixes practicality with “first-class airline standards of travel”. With all seven seats in place – and depending on their position – boot capacity ranges from 430 to 570 litres, while maximum load capacity in four seat mode is up to 2,310 litres.

Entry-level Elegance models feature powered sliding doors and tailgate. All seats are trimmed in leather, while the cabin comes with a 1.1m2 panoramic glass roof with an electric sunshade. An LCD armrest in each of the second-row seats allows occupants to control climate and infotainment functions. The D9 also gets a cooling and heating compartment for storing food and drinks, plus a Devialet sound system.

Front seats are equipped with heating, ventilation and a 10-point massage function. A heated steering wheel is also included, along with a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, complete with Google built-in, and a 10.25-inch instrument panel.

The range-topping Ultimate, priced at £85,000, adds a foot gesture activation for the sliding doors and tailgate, plus Zero gravity seats, which have 14-way adjustment, 16-point massaging and can recline up to 152 degrees. Occupants also benefit from their own 12.8-inch entertainment screen mounted to the back of the seats ahead.

All seven seats are finished in a higher grade of Nappa leather, while seat heating and ventilation is available to all occupants. The driver gains a 12-inch head-up display, while an additional 10.25-inch display is added ahead of the front seat passenger and there’s a digital rear view mirror display. The cabin is completed by wood trim inserts.
