Geely Auto UK is launching a new version of its EX5 all-electric SUV that features a larger battery for more EV miles and also gains towing capacity.

Arriving some eight months after the fast-growing Chinese brand first launched the midsized all-electric SUV, the flagship Ultra version sits at the top of the range and gains a 68.39kWh battery, delivering a WLTP range of up to 280 miles. It’s able to accelerate from 0-62mph in 7.6 seconds and produces 320Nm of torque.

The new EX5 Ultra costs £38,990. For comparison, the entry-level EX5 SE starts at £31,990 and comes with a 60.2kWh battery for a 267-mile range. In terms of spec, the Ultra shares its premium specification with the £36,990 Max variant, featuring a 13.8-inch head-up display, a 16-speaker FlyMe sound system, panoramic sunroof, power tailgate and front seat ventilation and massage function.

Geely Auto UK managing director Michael Yang said the carmaker recognises that a larger battery brings additional weight and higher energy consumption, so it’s struck a balance between battery weight and range enhancement.

Alongside the increased range and a larger battery, the EX5 Ultra also introduces towing capacity and an additional exterior colour.

For the first time in the EX5 line-up, the Ultra comes with a 750kg braked towing capacity, supported by Trailer Stability Assist. This upgrade significantly enhances versatility, making the EX5 Ultra well-suited to active lifestyles, light towing and leisure use.

The EX5 Ultra also debuts a new exterior paint option, Rainforest Green, that gives customers “an additional distinctive choice inspired by natural landscapes”.

Geely said the new flagship model reinforces the brand’s commitment to offering innovative, value-driven new energy vehicle solutions for UK customers.

Michael Yang added: “We’ve listened to customer and retailer feedback and responded with a model that offers greater range, higher specification and increased everyday usability, while remaining true to our commitment to outstanding value.”

As with the rest of the EX5 range, both the battery and the vehicle are covered by an eight-year warranty.

The new variant also continues the brand’s launch offer of a reduced-cost home wallbox in partnership with Andersen EV. EX5 customers can get a dual-branded Andersen 7kW smart home charger with professional installation for £499, saving £1k compared with a market value of £1,499.

The EX5 Ultra is on sale now through Geely’s UK dealer network, with first customer deliveries expected from May 2026.
